Through the abundant grace of Goddess Sri Kamakshi and with the blessings of Sri Sri Periyava of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, KKSF Canada has embarked on a long promised initiative- śrī śāṅkarī – religious education classes for children. .
The classes are meant for children in the age group 5 to 14 and are designed to give the children a basic knowledge about our glorious culture.
Children are taught to chant slokas for daily prayers. Extracts from some of the great works of Adi Sankara, and from Bhagavad Geeta are also taught. Interesting stories from the great Hindu Itihasas Ramayana and Mahabharata are part of the curriculum. There are plans to expand on the breadth of the program depending on the number and age groups of children. We supplement guidance received from Sri Matam with interesting materials from other well recognised institutions such as Sri Ramakrishna Mission, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan etc. For a quick look at pictures of such materials, please visit the documents page.
The main purpose of the classes is to help the children learn our precious culture, spiritual wisdom, and related values through age-appropriate learning. The focus is to to help the children channelize their abundant energy and exuberant enthusiasm in the right direction so that when they grow up into responsible men and women a detailed study of the same verses will afford them the mental strength and fortitude to face the vicissitudes of life boldly.
